Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary. He started the first Rotary club in Chicago in February 1905. In his honour the Rotary Foundation instituted the Paul Harris Fellowship (PHF) in which an individual or a Rotary Club on behalf of an individual, can contribute US$1,000 to the Rotary Foundation and receive the award of the Paul Harris Fellowship.

In the Rotary Club of Beaumaris, as in most Australian Rotary clubs, the club awards PHFs to Rotarians and others who have given outstanding service to Rotary or the community by means of a US$1,000 donation to the Rotary Foundation from the Club.
