International Service

WATER IN INDONESIA

Our water well project on Subu Island in East Indonesia is now underway with 4 wells completed so far. There will be a total of 15 water wells built at various villages on Sabu. Lack of water is a major concern of this island community, as are education and Malaria. Beaumaris Rotary Club is assisting the Sabunese people deal with these problems by the provision of mosquito nets to prevent the spread of Malaria and assisting in the construction of a student hostel.

DONATIONS

Beaumaris Rotary Club makes donations to International Rotary projects such as Shelterbox, which provide emergency shelter in disaster areas around the world. We also donate to RAM (Rotary against malaria. Wheelchairs for Kids, as well as Interplast, an organisation which sends volunteer surgical teams to developing countries.

WATERTANKS IN PNG

Through District 9810 Safe Water Saves Lives, we assist with the building of water tanks in villages in Papua New Guinea and other developing countries. A SWSL team went to PNG in September 2008 where water tanks were built at villages in Oro province. It is expected that another team will go to Oro province in 2010 to build more tanks.

EDUCATION IN PNG

We are sponsoring the education of two PNG students who comes from poor villages with very little opportunity for a further education. Our club pays their university and school fees and assists with other costs such as transport and school books. One student is studying Agriculture at Popondetta University and the other student is completing her senior high school studies
